Say Aloha to the Kealakehe Tiki Techs–team 3880 – who are coming a long way to compete in the FIRST Stronghold challenge at the Orlando Regional!
The Kealakehe Tiki Techs are native to the west side of the Big Island of Hawaii, residing in Kailua-Kona. We are proud of pursuing a history of STEM works in our community that create sustainable programs for future generations of thinkers. Team mentoring and supporting and hosting tournaments in FIRST LEGO League, Jr. , FIRST LEGO League, and VEX IQ helps us spread our passion for robotics to our community.
Our STEM team created and hosts semi-annual outreach programs, including summer and fall STEM camps for 5th-8th graders who work hands-on alongside experienced field professionals. Along with our community outreach events, we have found success in robotic competitions like FIRST. Throughout our team’s five years, we were honored with one Chairman’s Award, two regional wins, and five Engineering Inspiration Awards. Our success in FIRST Robotics Competition allowed us to attract more students and take on harder challenges.
We won 75 additional awards over our first five years in other STEM competitions and started programs in PS3, Math League, Science Fair, Design Thinking Hawaii, BotBall, CyberPatriot, FIRST LEGO League, IPPF, Science Olympiad, SkillsUSA, TARC, ROV, and VEX. Our focus on the summit recently expanded to the stars with our selection for the MoonRIDERS program–a joint-collaboration project with NASA at KSC, ‘Iolani School, Google Lunar X Prize, and PISCES–which is billed as the first high school experiment to ascend to the lunar surface in late 2017.
The Kealakehe Tiki Techs doing some amazing work, and clearly not resting on their leis.
