FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
was founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen. Based in Manchester, NH, the mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self- confidence, communication, and leadership.
The FIRST family of programs consists of three levels – FIRST LEGO League , FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition, which the Orlando Regional showcases. The programs vary by age and challenge so that learning is always building upon itself. Starting at age 4 and continuing through middle and high-school levels up to age 18, young people can participate at any level.

Looking for Awesome? We Got That!
In April, the four programs culminate in the FIRST Championship event, international robotics competitions and celebrations where teams win recognition, gain self-confidence, develop people and life skills, make new friends, and perhaps discover an unforeseen career path. Championship is held in Houston, Texas.

Every FIRST program, including the Orlando Regional, is run by a dedicated and accomplished group of volunteers, including the parents, teachers, friends and engineers, who spend many hours each year to make FIRST a reality for all of the students. Increasingly, these active volunteers and role models are FIRST Alumni.
