Meet FRC Team 3556: GET SMART!

GET SMART

Today we meet FRC Team 3556: GET SMART, from Lake City, Florida!

GET SMART Team 3556 aims to stimulate an appreciation of STEM in their small farming community of Lake City, Florida. With the continuous support of their town, this student driven team has successfully built and designed robots to compete in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition. Since their rookie year in 2011, they’ve developed a deep passion for robotics and FIRST. Alongside that passion came much knowledge, experience, and dedication for “the varsity sport of the mind.”

Over the past four years, Team 3556 has been honored with three different awards. In their first year they won two awards which included the Gracious Professionalism Award at the Florida Regional and the Judges Award at Tempest ‘n Tampa. They earned the Finalist Award with their 2012 Rebound Rumble robot, Maxwell. Beyond FIRST, they are being featured at Stacking Layers II, the second annual 3D Printing Symposium at Florida State University. You can check out their YouTube video here:

Team 3556 is very active during off-season with their community outreach projects. With the construction of Magnum PSI, a t-shirt launching robot that visits local schools and community events, an interest in STEM and robotics grew among the people of Lake City. By 2014 they found themselves surrounded by three Lego League teams: two Get Smarties teams of Summers Elementary School and the Eagle Bots of Epiphany Catholic School. The inspiration to begin their journey in robotics was kindled by FRC 3556.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of their community and sponsors, GET SMART looks forward to yet another great year to grow as student engineers and spread the message of FIRST.

Clearly GET SMART keeps getting smarter, and is doing a great job of sharing their smarts with others! We can’t wait to see them at the 17th Annual Orlando Regional on March 13 & 14!

Go Team!
