Flying in from the west coast – that’s the West Coast of the United States – is Searing Engineering, FRC Team 1972 of
El Centro, California, USA
Searing Engineering’s rookie year was in 2006 and we have competed every year since. Located in the Imperial Valley of Southern California, summer temperatures can reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit, hence our team name! Since our first year we have grown as a team and have made an impact in our community as well.
Local middle schools now have a LEGO robotics competition and high schools have a VEX robotics competition annually. We have mentored 3 other local high school teams, including teams in Mexicali, Mexico just across the border from where we are.
Ourbiggest news is that we received the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant of $18,000 a few years ago. However, our biggest accomplishment is that we now have alumni students who are working as engineers, with several more of our alumni currently studying engineering in various universities. That is why we do what we do, regardless of being in a community with the highest (or second highest) unemployment rate in the country. Go FIRST!!
