Roaring in from Ocala, come the Illumicats, Team 3242!
The Illumicats, team 3242, are located at Forest High School in Ocala, Florida. We were established in 2007, wanting to create a way for students in the EMIT (Engineering and Manufacturing Institute of Technology) program at the school to get more involved with engineering and implement resources they have learned to use in this program, like AutoCad, in a way that is actually more advanced than what is assigned to students in their required EMIT classes.
During our second year as a FIRST team, we were lucky enough to win the Chairman’s award. This previous season, our team was honored with an award for our Woody Flowers essay, dedicated to our former director, Peggy Brookins. Being the initial FIRST team in our county, we took initiative to provide our assistance in the building of two additional teams at Vanguard and Dunnellon High Schools.
To include younger groups of people, we mentor participants of Robopalooza, a robotics competition for Florida FIRST LEGO League teams in our local area. Aside from local communities, we have also reached out to places like Cuba and Uganda, sending them supplies and providing them with information about STEM education.
Come see the Illumicats light up the Orlando Regional on March 11 & 12!
