Team Spotlight: Team 3242 The Illumicats of Ocala, FL

IllumicatsRoaring in from Ocala, meet Team 3242 – The Illumicats

Team 3242 focuses on enriching the minds and abilities of the students within the program. Endeavoring to reach out to our general community, we show communities what FIRST robotics is and how STEM programs benefit the development of the public. Reaching out to the younger generation, we demonstrate the capabilities of our past robots and the possibilities of STEM through the presentations we host throughout our county.

Through the use of cutting edge technology, the Illumicats are able to explore new opportunities that accelerate their knowledge in all areas and aspects involved in building a robot. Our students can have the unique experience of working with numerous 3D printers, a laser cutter, and even a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine. Formed in 2009, Team 3242 has been able to go to nationals on three separate occasions throughout the mere eight years since its creation.

Having over 70 members, the Illumicats use a unique fundraiser that attracts sponsors such as Lockheed Martin, Stepp Construction, Monterey Boats, and United Roofing. These funds are used to not only take the students to the competition, but also to get the resources and technology to push them ahead of their rivals in innovative and ground-breaking ways.

You can see the Illumicats in action at the 19th annual Orlando Regional March 10 & 11 at the CFE Arena and the University of Central Florida in Orlando!
