Team Spotlight: Team 5472 Stallion Robotics of Delray Beach, FL

team 5472 -1Next up, meet  team 5472 Stallion Robotics  from American Heritage Boca/Delray , of Delray Beach, FL.

Team 5472, Stallion Robotics, was created in 2015.  We are a third year team from American Heritage School in Delray Beach, Florida. We started off with only one mentor and a few students. Over the past two years, we were able to grow into a team that comprises of over fifty students and six mentors, all of whom are dedicated to exemplifying FIRST values.

Mr. Donovan, our founding mentor, was inspired by our school’s FIRST LEGO League team to create a high school FIRST Robotics Competition team. When he first began the team, we lacked resources, mentorships, and an understanding of what FIRST really was. However, once our school saw the potential in FIRST Robotics Competition, they fully backed us for the journey ahead.

In our rookie season, we attended the South Florida Regional and the Orlando Regional. We were able to win the Highest Rookie Seed and Rookie All-Star awards at Orlando, which led us to the World Championship, a truly life-changing experience.

Last year we accomplished even more. We made it to the Semi-Finals during the Rocket City Regional and we were Finalists at the South Florida Regional. Even though we didn’t win any regionals last year, we were still able to compete at the World Championship. In the off-season, we were able to secure a win at Panther Prowl and were finalists at Mission Mayhem.

The support, encouragement, and knowledge our mentors have bestowed on us have made us into the team we are today. Not only do we owe them the success we’ve celebrated thus far, but we are grateful for all the lessons they have taught us. We would like to thank LexisNexis for their support on our Autonomous Golf Cart Project we are working on, American Automobile Association for a $25,000 grant for competition fees and outreach programs, and Snap-On for their tools and toolboxes. We would also like to thank Classic Fence Company Inc, Boca Bearing, Partsmaster, Lenovo, Sick Sensor Intelligence, and Boca Tint N Wraps for their support.

You can see the Stallion Robotics herd at the Orlando Regional March 10-11 at the CFE Arena at the University of Central Florida!
